Pete Olsen uncovered a novel way to communicate with friends and classmates using a Dartmouth postcard, which one sends by e-mail, after adorning the card with an appropriate Dartmouth picture. Try it out at www.ivyleaguesports.com/getmypostcard/ ?ivypc7573-96092627. In the news, Dick Mahoney is still successfully pursuing a career in his own real estate management company in West Hartford, according to a notation in a recent New York Real Estate Journal. The New YorkTimes seems to enjoy panning Carl McCall, including his involvement with the NYSE's Grasso fiasco. Life as a politician can be bumpy. Peter Jaquith made a fortune and lost it because of crack cocaine. His story was told in a gripping New York Times piece. Goose Gemberling forwarded the Times article and Larry Murphy, Pete's roommate at Dartmouth, also notified me of Pete's misfortune. Peter was interviewed on TheToday Show by Matt Lauer and is rebuilding his life, having been drug free for more than five years now. Pete Williamson won the prestigious Best of Show Award at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance with his 1935 Bugatti. Despite a light snow, we had a fun and successful mini-reunion over the Columbia weekend in October. Frank Gould put together a great time with Frank Sands, Ralph Manuel, Bob Downey, Dave Bradley, Sam Smith, Pete Williamson, Joe Kabat, Gersh Abraham, Hal Bernsen, Bob Gilges, Roger Bruttomesso, Bob Eleveld, Pete Kelsey, John Murphy, Dan Wilkes, John Ryan, Marcia Armstrong, Pat (Mrs. James) Bryant, Otto Wagenbach, Bill Yahr, Chuck Solms, Cy Handelsman, Dan O'Hara, Rick Wagner, Rink DeWitt and yours truly in attendance. The torchlight parade preceded the bonfire and the always-popular open house at the Norwich train depot. Saturday began with the traditional class meeting, Dave Bradley's tailgater, football victory over Columbia and the class dinner back at Dowd's Country Inn. At the dinner Ralph announced that we now have a Tucker Foundation intern sponsored by the class, courtesy of the Johanna Murphy fund in our treasury. John Trimble missed the affair, as he was in Hawaii watching his daughter compete in a triathlon and getting in a few rounds of golf. Phil Wood was recuperating from bypass surgery. Joe Jacquet was in New Orleans celebrating a birthday, as was Don Voss in the White Mountains somewhere. Ted Furber and Jerry Manne were detained and couldn't make it but were there in spirit. We were sorry to learn of the passing of Frank Blatz' wife Joan.

Our next mini-reunion will be over the 2004 Columbus Day weekend, October 8-10. While not Homecoming, it is the Yale weekend, warmer, more colorful and the classes of '57, '59 and '60 are supposed to be meeting then, too. We have some rooms at two places; Breakfast on the Connecticut (603-353-43 91) and Alden Country Inn (603-794-2296). Because it is peak fall color then, it is advisable to make your reservation soon.
