I assume the role of class secretary with some anxiety, having to try to fill the very able shoes of Ralph Manuel, our new class president. Also, I have to get used to the time lag, as you will be reading this in the Nov/Dec issue, and I am writing it in August. I received the following information from Dale Stine, a veiy close friend of Marcia Armstrong. On Tuesday, July 22, John Armstrong took his car in for service and faint- ed in the parking lot and was taken to the hospital, where he phoned Marcia. By the time she got there John had died. Apparently his last words were to the doctor were something like: "Doctor, you have to get me out of here. I have a golf tournament this weekend." He was supposed to play with Jake Jacobus. John's sudden and shocking demise reminds us all how mortal we all are. His presence and hospitality at mini-reunions and reunions, his class participation and leadership and his engaging personality will be missed.

Joe and Sheila Kabat were among several classmates who attended John's funeral. "We all lost it when the minister asked the congregation to sing 'Dartmouth Undying.' The most moving moment for us was after the service, when John and Marcia's 15 grandchildren rang the church bells 67 times."

Art Lindenauer indicates that he is enjoying semi-retirement with wife Susan, having retired from Schlumberger Limited where he spent 19 years as CFO and executive VP of finance and three years as chairman of its United States subsidiary. "I have stayed on as chairman and as a consultant. I am on several not-for-profit boards and several public company boards, where I am chairman of the audit committee. I remain active at Tuck, where I have been an executive in residence and have taught a class each winter in the corporate governance class. Just recently I have been appointed to the board of overseers at Tuck. I remain close to Buz Nathanson, Mort Fisher and Ted Kleinman." Congratulations, Art!

Roger Bruttomesso reports that he received a note from the Dartmouth Athletic Sponsor Program stating that the class of 1958 contribution helped recruit Ben Green, a defensive back for the Big Green and class of '07 from Potomac, Maryland.

Ted and Judy Furber went to Skip Louis' memorial service in June, where Jim Crawford gave a great eulogy, according to Ted. He went on to mention: 'After the service, during the reception, we Dartmouth types serenaded the folks with 'Men of Dartmouth'—the old version."

Frank Gado writes that, at the reunion, he and Pete Herman "got a great kick out of Pete Hebacher s idiot savant facility to name the top song on the Hit Parade charts for everyone's birthday." Frank saw Clyde Topping and his date the week after the reunion.

Please keep those cards, letters, faxes and emails coming. Thanks. And don't forget to visit the '58 Web site:dartmouth.org/classes/58.
