From Cack Bittner: The sixth annual '58 vs. '59 golf tournament in Boca Grande, Florida, proved to be a wonderful gathering of "old" friends. Sadly, we lost possession of the "sacred" trophy, a green toilet plunger, for the next year. (I take personal responsibility for that. First, I played terribly, and second, the eraser on my pencil didn't work properly.) Contestants included Bittner, Lowell Dana, Dick Portland, Roger Bruttomesso, Larry Weltin, Andy Thomas, Hank Milton and Walt Busker, captain.

Dr. Sam Silverstein, a skilled mountain climber, ascended Antarctica's Mt. Vinson. Sam, who is a professor at Columbia University, was a member and organizer of the American Alpine Club-National Geographic sponsored expedition that did most of the first ascents in the Ellsworth Range, including Vinson and Tyree.

Frank Gould writes: As the Alden Inn is closed, I have made arrangements with the new Courtyard by Marriott in Centerra Park for classmates to make reservations for the Dartmouth Night Weekend, October 19-21. When they contact the hotel they must be very specific that they are booking rooms held in my name and Ralph Manuel's name. Each of us has a block of nine rooms booked in our names, held on our credit cards. If they don't mention this they will simply be told that the hotel is sold out."

Your 50th reunion committee, chaired by Pete Kelsey, is putting together a fabulous time for this milestone event. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend June 6-8, 2008. A. Bruce Carlson, Ph.D., an honored electrical engineering professor and textbook author, passed away from complications of progressive supranuclear palsy on March 18. Our condolences to his wife and family. Visit our Web site at www.alum.dartmouth.org/classes/58.
