The lull of news in this particularly frigid winter here in the Northeast, gives me some space to insert news items and whereabouts of seldom-heard-from classmates.
Our 50th in early June of 2005 has prompted several to drop a note saying "I shall be there." Dick Meurer, residing in Jacksonville, and Dave Anderson in Boca Raton come to mind. Jim Perkins and Joe Mathewson, as co-editors of our reunion book, have heard from many more. It is our 50th and the time for us all to enjoy old memories is getting short. Make your plans early and let us have a great turnout.
Two individuals who repeatedly come to my attention thru news releases are Gordie Russell and Dave Page. If I were to enumerate their contributions to their communities and civic involvement it would surpass my allotted words. Suffice it to say that Dave was named vice chairman of the Kresge Foundation. Detroit is fortunate to have such a person with the will to serve its citizenry.
With Halle Berry on its cover and Dan Anzel buried on page 20, Diabetes Focus made a point that with proper diet and care, an insulin dependent person can lead a full and vigorous life. Dan was diagnosed the summer of graduation and despite that became an AAU weightlifting champion and ranked tennis player in southern California. Well done, Dan.
Dave Oberlander and wife Rose had occasion to show Harry and Margie Ambrose the nearby Harry Truman home and library. Betty Brady, the collector of change for our mini-reunions, informs me that Dave and Rose will be with us in Denver come May 19-22. Asuperior look at the "Mile High City" has been guided by Harry Lewis and assisted by John and Ann Chafee, Ed and Carol Wilson and Bruce and Georgia Newman, Our first widow other than Betty, Tina Kister, will be in attendance. It is interesting that at least eight widows still subscribe to the Alumni Magazine.
The recent .epistle from Harry Lewis, John Ballard, Bob Perkins and president Woody Goss is meant as a strong reminder that early-bird fund gifts do wot replace the Alumni Fund giving until July 1.
