I've got lots o' news to report from fellow classmates who will help warm your wintery thoughts. For example, did you know that Ginny Hague has been in Germany since July? First, she was interning with OTIS GmbH (the elevator people), and she is now taking classes at the University of Mainz and is living in Wiesbaden. So, if you have plans to head to Deutschland in the near future, lookup Ginny. Oh, and you might want to let her know that Brad Hise is not there-she's been looking for him. Oops. That's partially my fault, I suppose.
Charlie French writes, "Nihad—you write about what others do, but what about yourself?" Well, Charlie, thanks for asking. I am working at Simon and Schuster's Higher Education Group, a.k.a. Allyn & Bacon Publishing, here in Needham, Mass. I work with professors all day long, so I haven't really left the academic realm this year. But enough about me. Charlie's life is actually quite exciting these days. He is working on a four-month internship in the Cartographic Division at National Geographic in D.C. From there he will be speeding off to Costa Rica for three months of Peace Corps training, and then he will head to Panama for two years to teach environmental education and do a lot of photography on the side. Best of luck Charlie! Send me an autographed picture or somethingmaybe it will end up in National Geographic someday!
Jason Stern sent me an info-filled postcard about "what a guy without a corporaterecruiting job does in his year off before law school." Well, here goes. He taught swimming lessons to the children of stars out in Cali, learned to surf on the side, and returned home to Maine in the fall, where he waited tables and did freelance photography for the Bar Harbor Times. He even photographed Al Gore's arrival to Bangor and made it well past the press box, onto the runway, and into the motorcade. Pretty cool, Jason. By the time we read this article, Jason could very well be on a different continent, with the way his year's going. I just hope he finds his way back to law school after all his travels!
Andy Schopler wrote and gave me the scoop on many of our classmates. Andy is with that ever-growing number of post-Dartmouth Cambridge residents studying law at Harvard. Andy writes that Katie Ruben is getting her master's in education at the Teachers College at Columbia University. JoshHanna is working for CIRC in Boston. Halicue Gambrell is also working in Boston as a paralegal and is applying to English graduate-school programs. Sam Wilbur is in Hanover finishing up his B.A. and trying to add cross-country All-American honors to his already existing Ail-American honors for track. Derek West is living in Boulder, Colo., and marketing inspirational speech tapes. Tori Knox is at Michigan Law School. ChadNunnery is working as a chemical engineer in Brownville, Texas. Matt Berry is at Yale Law this year. He is joined by Paul Morf, who is actually living in the Divinity School there because the law school class is overenrolled. Laurie Leonard and Tom Colomb live just a few doors down from each other at Cornell Law School. Amy Candido is going to the University of Chicago for her law degree. Shelly Branam continues studying philosophy as she pursues a Ph.D. at Princeton. And Matt Calkins is in Wilmington, Del., working for Microstrategies. Bundle up and keep those chattering teeth smiling, everyone. Spring's just around the corner. And if you're still in Hanover, well, bundle up tighter, and get yourself some nose plugs because the Green is going to smell lovelier than ever when all that snow melts! Take care and write me soon.
