Dartmouth's undefeated figureskaters won their first national in-tercollegiate figure skating title thisspring, posting the best news of the sporting year. Like the baseball team, other spring squads could only come close to titles of their own: The women's water polo team finished second among clubs nationally and the women's lacrosse team was kept out of the Final Four by Princeton. As DAM went to press, Dartmouth sailors had qualified to compete in their national championships.

Colorado assistant Terry Dunn, 51, hasbeen named men's head basketballcoach. He coached previously at both West Point and the Air Force Academy.

California businessman T.J. Rodgers '70,whose campaign attracted national me-dia coverage in publications such as TheWall Street Journal, has become the second petition candidate ever to win election to the board of trustees. The first to do so was John F. Steel '54, who served from 1980 to 1990. Rodgers, founder and CEO of Cypess Semiconductor, ran on a platform of "a stronger curriculum, more open and better governance, and better leadership."

Dartmouth accepted 18.3 percent ofapplicants—or 2,143 students—for the class of 2008. Of that number, 1,095 have committed to enroll—a number expected to drop slightly by fall. Their SAT scores averaged 16 points higher than those in the class of 2007; 98.9 percent were in the top 10 percent of their classes and 28.1 percent were valedictorians. Almost two thirds of next fall's freshmen come from public schools. Just over half (50.5 percent) are women, 7.2 percent are international, 7.2 percent are African Americans, 6.1 percent are Latinos, 12.6 percent are Asian American, and 3,6 percent are Native American.

Economics professor Andrew Samwickwill return to campus from Washington July I to head the Rockefeller Center.
