This issues copy deadline fell three days after ourworld-renowned and glorious 60th, so you must wait to read about it in the next class newsletter from Al Hormel, also scholarly. I wasn't there but, lacking 500 gallons of you- know-what, hoisted a June 14 dram on the rocks to each and every one of you. Tasted so good, I did it again for each of the three reunion days. And beyond. All but one of the classmates named below failed to attend the splendiferous rendezvous for reasons of health, conflict, distance, forgetfulness or good old sloth.

The exception is Bill Stahl. According to the Medical School magazine, he retired from practice when Patricia advised him to hand up his surgeon's tools upon reaching age 75, which wasnt yesterday. Is it a class record that Bill's oldest and youngest children are 42 years apart? Did he play his saxophone foryou?

The May 25 New York Times praised Greg Rabassa for his "brilliant translations" of Spanish and Portuguese literature. One admirer proclaimed, "His great gift is to find the music in English that is true to the original language." Greg has made 50 major translations and his own book about his demanding craft will be published next spring.

When house and yard problems in Houston beset Dave Judson and Yvonne, their thoughts turn westward to their Las Cruces condo. They're in good shape following Dave's 2002 hip replacement. He stays current with retired law professor Junius Hoffman and hopes for a visit soon. Meanwhile, he and Yvonne are hopping over for a look at London and otherwise staying out of trouble. Two of their grandchildren are in Charleston and two in Bethesda, including a girl gaining fame as a sprinter. Her talents may run in the family, so to speak, for Dave says his son- in-law was a classmate of 1936 gold medal winner Jesse Owens.

Take time out for a farewell embrace and wah- hoo-wah for Bob Tompa. He died May 5.

Happy ending. Wedding bells rang in Vermont July 10 for Phil Penberthy. He and Ruth Williams met at a Carolina Meadows potluck for widows and widowers. Bouquets and kisses to the starry-eye youngsters.
