Each autumn hundreds of freshmen embark on wilderness trips as a prelude to four years of hitting the books. Last year Rob Strong ’04 captured some of the actions of the fearless trip leaders—members of the other three classes—as they made camping preparations, taught songs and demonstrated the general zaniness associated with this College tradition. “We all feed off of each others crazy weirdness and the excited energy of the incoming tripees and leaders,” says Chrissy May ’05. This year’s trips, which get underway in mid-September, include everything from riding mountain bikes in the College Grant to learning about nature photography in the White Mountains. More than 85 percent of incoming students are expected to participate.
