Bathtub gin was the common drink necessarily resorted to in Prohibition days because of the shortage of normal liquors, but only recently was the '33 Dartmouth connection revealed. Walter Besanzon disclosed that he and associates had actually concocted the noxious beverage in a tub in an off-campus hideaway in student days. The sampling proved disastrous, necessitating an emergency visit to Dicks House, but left no lasting ill effects, as the now-distinguished litterateur testified as he confided his youthful peccadillo. Rick Bradshaw has sent us a beautiful little bound record of our noteworthy 70th reunion, a skillful creation with color photographs of major events and pictures of Rick's family and 33 participants. The artistically scripted text reproduces the full picture of our get-togeter. We are sending the volume to the Rauner archives to join the '33 collection there. Miller Wachs, our class president, wrote us some time ago to record a visit in Stratford from Ned Hird, who was campaigning for Dartmouth trustee responsiveness to alumni concerns. Miller and Ned reminisced about the "Silver Moon Quartet" of Wachs, Hird, Weldon Brown (later Wachs' brother-in-law) and Byron McCoy, and the songs they used to sing in the distant days.
