Speaking of reunion, several people commented that they really liked my "what if" theme from the last column. Okay, one was my wife. The others, representing about .003 percent of our class and a number similar to those who finished behind me in the class ranking, felt the theme was thought-provoking and appropriate to a reunion year. Some of you may be saying, "I saw the column and wished I had read it," some may be saying, "I read it and wished I had those three minutes back," and still others may be saying, "This guy must not have much news this month. Those of you in the last group would be right.
But little news does not mean no news, thanks to Gayle Gilman, who sent reports from Hollywood of a crazy and hectic 2005. When someone says their life is hectic, we always say, "Oh sure, must have been a rough crossword puzzle today," or something similarly witty. But, in Gayle's case, life is no relaxing puzzle. Gayle and husband Jeff welcomed twins Juliet and Colin into the world on January 7,2005. Actually Gayle did so herself, as Jeff was in Indonesia reporting on the tsunami for National Geographic and heard the news via satellite phone from Bande Aceh. The twins, who join older siblings Ella (7) and Dylan (4), spent the first five weeks of their life in the NICU (which I think is neonatal intensive care unit, not Northern Indiana Carpenters Union). For the first time since graduation Gayle is not working outside the home but enjoying the transition while seeking a seven-letter word for guaranteed fun. Might I suggest R-E-U-N-I-O-N?
Mark Mallory was named Cincinnati's may-or on December L Not of huge interest or pertinence to this column, since I'm guessing about .003 percent (that number again) of us know who he is. Ah, but consider the domino effect. With Mallory moving on, guess who gets his 9th district seat in the Ohio State Senate? Hint 1: He's a Democrat. Hint 2: He's the CEO of Sash Communications and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati Law School. Hint 3: He's Erik Kearney. (I'm hopeful no more hints are necessary at this point.) Erik told the local media that small businesses and adoption will be among his key issues. Sounds like all the hoopla caused him to forget our reunion as a key issue. We'll forgive him this time in return for a bowl of Skyline Chili.
This column is over, its theme absent 600 words came and went The author seems a huge buffoon Hope he's not in Hanover this June That we'll toast under the reunion tent
