I hope everyone's having a great 2006. Because I heard from a number of classmates in late December, most of this news is pretty current. Enjoy!
Lisa McGill sent the exciting news that she's published her first book, Constructing Black Selves:Caribbean American Narratives and the Second Generation. Her book has been described as "an im- portant contribution to studies of 2 oth-century U.S. immigration, African-American and Afro- Caribbean history and literature, and theories of ethnicity and race." Lisa, her husband, Jay Readey, and their son, Chad, live in Chicago, where Lisa is the principal of LM Consulting, a diversity and equity consultancy.
Michael Hauser wrote to let me know that he is married and has two children, Esther and Yehudah, the latter of whom just lost his first tooth. Michael is a tax attorney at the mid-sized law firm Maddin, Hauser, Wartell, Roth & Heller and is enjoying life in the Detroit area.
Sonny Allison has news on a few classmates (including himself). He and his wife, Virginia, welcomed their son, Nicholas, on September 9, which according to Sonny was good for Virginia, since as an ob/gyn she can now relate to her patients Sonny, who is an associate at the law firm of Perkins Coie in Denver, also reported that Jeremy Katz's wife is pregnant with their third child and that Wendy Jastremski Smith is living in New Jersey while her husband, Steve, is finishing a fellowship.
Andrew Gallo lives in Ashland, Massachusetts, and was recently elected partner in the law firm of Bingham McCutchen in Boston, where he practices commercial and bankruptcy litigation. In August Aidrew and his wife, Julie, welcomed their first child, Avery Sabrina Gallo. Andrew also informed me that Tony Riccio finished his Georgetown orthopedic surgery residency in June and has begun a pediatric orthopedic and spine deformity fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children here in Dallas. (Welcome to Dallas, Tony!) Tony, recently engaged, is getting married this coming summer. Brian Egan has completed his residency in Boston and is now an anesthesiologist in New York City. Brian, his wife, Barbara, and their daughters, Isabelle and Abigail (who was born in November), live in New Jersey.
More from Andrew! Adam Tremblay is "still enjoying the single life as an attending physician at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan." Tony Donaldson finished his urology residency at Mary Hitchcock in June and is now a Navy urologist stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, where he lives with his wife, Elizabeth, and their son, Quinn. And Joanie (Breen) and Nick Van Rees welcomed Nathan Andrew, their third child, this fall. He joins sisters Brigid and Lilly in "the growing Van Rees brood" living in St. Louis. Both Nick and Joanie work at Chemia Corp.
I also heard from Bradford Backus, who received a Ph.D. in neuroscience this year from Harvard/MIT and is now a research fellow (and choreographer) at the University College London. He invites any classmates visiting London to contact him through his alumni e-mail account.
Speaking of alumni e-mail accounts, you can find classmates' contact information through the online directory at the alumni relations Web site, http://alumni.dartmouth.edu/index.shtml (login required). The site also has information on local clubs, mini-reunions, etc., and is generally a wealth of knowledge.
Since my last-minute plea to '95s with names beginning with 'A" and "B" elicited some results, "C" through "Z" should be on the lookout for a similar e-mail in the future. (Though I'll probably mix up the alphabet just to keep things interesting for everybody.)
