Happy spring! As I write this on February 25 it doesn't feel like spring! In a one-word understatement: Brrr! It's 5 degrees with a wind chill of 15 below.
Dartmouth has lost 2 good sons—heaven has gained two more residents; deepest sympathy to the families of John Wesley Stephens and William Donald Simmons.
According to my dear friend, Al Wolff, "Congratulations Jean, for making the class of 1938 coed." However, in my view, long, long before the 1970s when Dartmouth was officially coed, the women of the amazing class of 1938, I'm going to say, "engineered the blueprint" for what was to come. The women of the class of '38 were, are and always will be the pattern to be used in creating women of Dartmouth—an extraordinary blend of culture and diversity, compassionate and sensitive individuals who, for so many, many years sang "Men of Dartmouth" with a tear in their eye and a lump in their throat. I know because for a very short period of time I sang that song too—and I always cried.
I could list the many women from our class who made a difference in my life over the past 20-plus years, but I would be afraid that I would forget someone and I wouldn't want that to happen. You have no idea how much I enjoyed "living" your memories of your days at Dartmouth. So often I wished I was a part of those days! It sounded so amazing.
They don't give me many words to work with—I could go on for pages. That being said, please let me know about your thoughts on, perhaps, a Saturday evening dinner in the fall- the number is minor—the more the merrier!
My very best to you all to stay healthy, enjoy the day and know that I think of you so often!
