About a month ago I had a wonderful experience when the phone rang in the evening and a familiar and deep voice said, "Hello, Jean, this is Lew Parker, class of 1938"—as if he needed to tell me! Lew went on to say he had just come across the letter I sent out almost a year ago. Lew is still in Gods country—Maine—and, as he said, "alive and kicking." Lew was one of our regulars at the mini-reunions. "Not much going on—just getting by." All true words for all of us. It was such a pleasure for me to hear his very distinctive voice.
Harry Hampton, class of 1945, was good enough to send me a copy of an obituary on one of our own, Leroy Benatar Block, a member of the class of 1938 family, who passed away on March 17 at his home on Long Island—deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
A letter received in March from alumni relations indicated a change in upcoming "big" reunions: Effective immediately, those classes celebrating their 75th, 70th and 65 th reunions are asked to return to campus during a September Dartmouth football weekend rather than Commencement Weekend in June—one of the reasons for this is that Commencement Weekend is such a busy time that Hanover is unable to comfortably accommodate these very special classes returning. Having the reunions in September will afford returning alumni the opportunity to take advantage of the Hanover Inn until it is full. Just a brief reminder: The "amazing class of 1938" will be celebrating its 70th reunion in 2008—not too far away. So, please stay healthy and start thinking
about returning to "the good life." Think of you so very often—be good and, as indicated above, stay healthy so that we may all meet very soon! God bless America...and thank all of you for your sacrifices allowing us to live in such a grand country!
