As I write this the golfers are golfing at Tampa Pines Golf and Country Club in Florida under Shelly Woolf s watchful eyes; and the skiers are waxing their post-Olympic skis in Vail, Colorado, ready to take on the black diamonds. Steve Mullins is overseeing the winter sports group by organizing accommodations at Lions Head Center Condominiums. His e-mail to probable participants reads "com- Dlaints gladly received and ignored."
The skiers had an earlier, now annual, warm-up at Mt. Snow, Vermont, from January 8 through 10. Bob Adnopoz, Steve Mullins, Jack Christy, Dick Gorsey, Dana Low, Tom Tyler, Jay Davis and Ned Freedman met for their first downhill challenge of 2006. Ned and Debra Freedman hosted the group at their near by home.Jay Davis believes the success of this event results from its early date following the holidays.
Our newsletter editor, Pete Barker, receives all those Green Cards from classmates, and I was therefore surprised to receive a yellow card from him soliciting my attention to his performance in the play Question of Balance by Alex Menza, held at the American Theatre of Actors in New York City in mid-February. Pete wrote: "Once more into the breech as I appear in my 40th off-off-off-Broadway Question ofBalance has a powerful cast and a provocative theme—especially for people like some of us, in our 'later' years. I have the lead in this one and never leave the spotlight." Tony Kane, who attended the play with Sonja, Dick and Judy Steinberg and Dick and Gloria Franklin, reported that Pete's performance as one facing mortality and "trying to avoid the grim reaper" was excellent. Pete added in his note to me: "By the way, my most notable recent experience was as 'background' on the set of The Good Shepherd, Robert DeNiro's movie now in production."
Pete, ever the Renaissance man, received the gold medal for shotput in the Mid-Atlantic Masters Track and Field championships held at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.
