Emerging from the winter's gray, there is once again a joy for spring and hope that the mailbag will be full of information from classmates anxious to share their thoughts. At least the spring thing still works.
To find news about our fellow '69s the easiest source is the class Web site; so we will turn there as we did a couple issues back. But first, a report on a live encounter with Gene Pinover, who is still living in New York City, where he attended NYU School of Law after graduation. While in law school Gene met his wife, Diana, a Bennington graduate, and the two of them started successful, separate law careers and a family. Gene has specialized in commercial real estate law and real estate development during his career. His expertise in the field brought him a position on the executive committee of the Colleges real estate advisory board, where he participates in the direction of the endowment funds real estate holdings. Some of you may remember Gene was the school harpist, and he continues to play and compose. He is looking forward to an April appearance in "Jazz at Lincoln Center," where he will perform. Gene and Diana have raised three children, the oldest Julia, a Dartmouth '02, while son Ben is at Hampshire College and Hannah is attending Oberlin College. Gene is giving no thought to retirement and despite his busy professional schedule he takes time to serve on the boards of Trinity School in N.Y.C., Cardigan Mountain School in New Hampshire and the Ballet Hispanico. Since he knows I speak with him regularly, Gene asked that I send greetings to Scott Balcomb. Consider him greeted.
The new easy-access Web site offers even more entertaining possibilities for the class. Among the names in the links section are Curtis Nichols, with an in-depth look at his Green Valley School in New Hampshire; a page for Chuck Morey detailing his role as the artistic director of a Salt Lake theater company; and Terry Light with an interesting description of the origins of his "Shades of Meaning." Our Webmaster has asked and answered a question about Roger Fritz, and in the class news you will find a story about the award Ron Lehr received. By the time you read this, Webmaster Peter Elias will have completed an interactive part of the site with a questionnaire on employment/retirement— what's your preference? Check this out and participate. While there you can do some creative writing on an e-Green Card.
Following the last columns question, "Where are these guys?" we can add a couple more names from the silent majority. Anybody heard from Brian Maracle or Steve Harris? How about Peter Hess or Fred Klein? We still don't have a clear winner in the "who knows something about these people?" contest.
We are saddened to report the death of lan Bruce on February 3 of complications from ALS. Our hearts go out to his wife Janice, and daughters Elizabeth and Margaret.
