The winter did not treat Hanover kindly. For the alpine events at Winter Carnival at the Skiway, the only snow was machine-made on the race slopes and a few adjacent trails. The woods and fields were bare so that the cross-country events were moved north to Crafts bury Common in Vermont.
Bob Dodson, who is currently living in Wilder, Vermont, in February returned from his 10th trip to the Antarctic as a special lecturer for the American Geographic Society aboard the liner Corinthian 11. He first visited the Antarctic as a dog-team driver with the Ronne expedition in 1947-48. Joe and Sally Hayes in April returned from three months in Anguilla, where they relaxed oh the beaches, in restaurants and with good books. We would welcome comments from the group of 40 or more M.D.s in the class, from whom we seldom hear.
A minor project led to an interesting finale:
Your secretary was trying to determine the names of those who had served as our class presidents with the idea of soliciting contributions for this column. Two of our former presidents, Ed Seng has and Jesse Chadwell, have passed away. Although he provided the bulk of the information on the succession,Townes Harris (1987-92) could not recall the name of his predecessor nor could Walt Peterson (1978-83) name his successor.
Head agent Frank Weber notes that as of early April, College Fund pledges were 39.7 percent of our goal, with 81 of 295 active members participating. With the annual decrease in number in the class, our goal becomes more difficult to achieve each year.
The sympathy of the class is offered to the families of Robert Ashleigh, who died on January 10; Lester Corelitz, who died August 27,2003; and Stephen Moore, who died on November 18,2005.
Reunions: 2006 mini-reunion, Norwich Inn, October 13-15; 60 th reunion, Hanover, June 11-13,2007.
