Jack Kent, longtime secretary of our class and the author of this column for many years, died in late March at his home in Winchester, Massachusetts. He was a loyal son of Dartmouth, a devoted and hardworking member of our class. His warmth and dry wit will be missed by many of us who were honored to have been his friend and classmate .Jack's role of class secretary will be taken over by Nev Chamberlain. Class news for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine can be sent to him at 1835 North Garden Grove Circle, Vero Beach, FL 32962.
Our class has always been noted for its outsanding mini-reunions both in Hanover and round the girdled earth. In late March 20 classmates and their spouses met in Tucson, Arizona, for another great gathering hosted by Bud and Shirley Bray. Those who attended were Jack and Jill Harned, Jay and Carol Buck, Bill and Terri Carpenter, John and Ginny Dwyer, Jacques Harlow, Dave Taylor, George and Joanne Harris, Lilly Meijer, Eric and Sue Miller, Merritt and Amity Osborn, and □on Waite.
Dr. Bob Wilkinson, who for many years taught and practiced medicine in the Washington, D.C., area, retired in May. His retirement plans call for continued teaching, part-time volunteer medical work for the regions poor and time to catch up on his long-neglected reading.
Also in late March Oxford University Press published David Davis' latest book (his 15th), InhumanBondage: The Rise and Fall of Slavery in the NewWorld. Reviews from the press and the worlds leading scholars in the field have been marvelous. Eight years of research went into this work.
Jim Malone and Arnie Oss were in Hanover a month or so ago to be honored and to help mark the 100th anniversary of Dartmouth hockey. The celebration for our classmates—and a host of other Dartmouth hockey greats from the past—was held before a sellout crowd in the Thompson ice arena.
