Ed Barker writes, "Imagine taking a vacation to the Caribbean, but instead of spending your day hung over by the beach, you spend it buzzing around lush, green islands in a motorboat looking for manatees. Or perhaps you're spending the day in the Libyan desert, excavating a little-known carnivorous dinosaur. Or observing koala behavior in Australia. These opportunities to participate in legitimate scientific research are the essence of Earth watch Institute's programs."

Ed moved to Boston in March to become di- rector of corporate relations at Earthwatch, working to develop new corporate partnerships. You can check out their work at www.earthwatch.org. He made the move after five and a half years at Community Wealth Ventures in Washington, D.C., and said "It's a return to New England and an opportunity to apply the skills I learned at CWV to support scientific inquiry into the challenges that matter to us all—understanding how the planet is changing and what kinds of impact those changes will have."

After five years in London Sydney Williams and his family moved back to the United States at the end of 2004. On New Year's Day 2005 they welcomed their third child, George Henry. He joined Alexander (5) and Anna (3). Sydney writes, "A full household and new business at the same time!" The new business, which he started with his wife, Beatriz, is called Lyceum Associates. According to a local Connecticut paper, Lyceum develops round table discussions among institutional investors, economic thinkers and industry experts. The paper wrote, "The Williamses started their roundtables with a bang in June 2005 as they hosted a session featuring R. Glenn Hubbard, dean of the Columbia University Business School and former chairman of President Bush's Council of Economic Advisers, as the guest speaker. Before founding Lyceum Sydney spent a decade in institutional equity sales with Deutsche Bank.

Praise for our new class Web site, www.dartmouth89.org, keeps pouring in. Missy Steffens writes, "I used the people search part to look up who was living in D.C. because I was headed there two days later for a dance convention with my oldest daughter. I found Laurie Wingate, mapquested her address, discovered she was two miles from our hotel, e-mailed her from the site and a few hours later she called! I have not talked to Laurie since our 10th reunion—and we were able to get together twice over the weekend! As you can imagine, it was awesome, as if it had only been weeks not years since we'd seen each other and it never would have happened without the new Web site! So thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are awesome!" And finally, a reminder that you can run your Dartmouth searches from our class Web site .Your searches may also generate revenue for the class of '89 through Google's Adsense search program.
