Dave Prewitt, mini-reunion cochair, needs your help. Dave is in charge of our offcampus mini-reunions and, based on a survey of the class executive committee, is now down to a choice between South Seas Plantation in Captive, Florida, and Scottsdale, Arizona, for our class' spring 2009 70th birthday bash. Whichever location is finally selected for the 2009 birthday party, the other location probably will be utilized in 2008 or 2010 for another off-campus minireunion. To be an effective off-campus event, Dave needs some local resident classmates to step up to the plate to help coordinate the event. Those "somebodies" could be you. Contact Dave at prewitt@bbs-law.com. Our best off-campus mini-reunions have always been those with local alumni classmates assisting as coordinators.

The Tanzi license plate has by now changed hands. Mike Murphy, who won the bid at our reunion auction for the first year displayed it proudly in his new home. Then, along came F.J. "Duck" Eicke, who quietly but firmly reminded the executive committee that he was next in line for the honor to display the Tanzi award, which he should have received by now if Murphy kept his word to deliver same in a timely fashion. For the next three years the award will move to Pete Bleyler, Gerry Kaminsky and Vic Rich, in that order.

Doug Zipes was recently chosen as one of three recipients of the 2007 Duke University Medical Center Distinguished Alumnus Award. This award was given to Doug because of his distinguished medical career and the remarkable contributions he has made in the field of cardiac electrophysiology and the development of new laboratory techniques. His accomplishments as an educator, researcher, mentor and leader at the Indiana University School of Medicine have set high standards of excellence for that institution. Who would have "thunk this" of our DZ back in 1961?

At the annual class officers meeting in September, the topic of class unity and class friction will be discussed under the overall heading of maintaining unity within the class. This is a very important but potentially sensitive issue. If anyone has any thoughts on the topic that they would like to share, please contact me immediately so that I can possibly share it with the others on the class officers executive committee and the class officers for all classes as an entire group.

We are producing an updated edition of the class directory, which has not been revised in approximately 12 years (Art Kelton was then class president and Roger McArt was reunion chair). During that time some of us have retired, moved, divorced, remarried, become e-mail proficient or possibly even passed on. For those of you still with us and whose information has changed, please communicate with me and let me know of any revisions required, especially as to address and telephone number changes and new e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers.
