Not too much news to write about for this article, either because we are making less news to write about or there are simplyfewer of us.

Henry Eberhardt, our class Alumni Fund chairman, is assisting the College to find a 45th reunion giving chairman. At the time this article was written (in December), the position was still open. If any classmate is interested, get in touch with Hank or Frank Ginn, our 45th reunion chairman.

By now, the tension brought about by the disclosure of the highly charged comments by Dean of Admissions Karl Furstenberg in a letter to the president of Swarthmore in December 2000, about how athletics and academics probably don't mix well together at the top colleges, will probably have abated. There were explanations and apologies, and the matter, we hope, has now been put to rest. Athletics and scholarship do mix and, if handled properly, athletics probably even improves academics and individual scholarship.

After much discussion by members of the class executive committee, the group of approximately 44 classmates voted to eliminate our support of the Fayerweather dorm complex (after approximately 20 years) and to replace it with a class donation to dCare, the Dartmouth Center of Addiction, Recovety and Education program that deals with alcohol and substance abuse. Support for this program was recommended and led by Hartley Webster, who is on the centers planning council.

Ken Quickel was one of six "distinguished" Dartmouth alumni who, during the fall of last year, participated in an alumni study tour trip to China. Everyone apparently had a great time.

Does anyone have any ideas for future out- of-town mini-reunions? During the last 15 or so years these have been a great source of enjoyment and camaraderie for those who have attended. I count about seven to date: Washington, D.C.; Vail, Colorado; Los Angeles; New Orleans; Chicago; San Francisco; and Palm Springs, California. Have I missed any?

In early December 2004 the College held a 50th anniversary dinner to honor the Out- standing Alumni Award winners from all classes, at which time a book on all of the award winners, written and edited by Steve Waterhouse 65 and a few other dedicated alumni, was presented and given to all attendees. The honorees (and attendees) from our class were Ron Boss, Gerry Kaminsky and Vic Rich.

In closing, it is with sadness that I note the passing of two classmates that I learned of since my last DAM article: Philip Donald Blanche (information received from his longtime friend Dan Reith) and Bob Hodder (information received from his close friend Sam Bell).

Denny Engleman: Are you still married (it's been almost three to four months of, we hope, wedded bliss)?
