We note with sadness the passing of our classmate Carlton W. "Bud" Ellms.
I recently received an e-mail from Janet Cole, daughter of Don Cole. She reminisced about attending minis with her dad and getting to know some of our classmates. Since her father's death in 2004 she has been in contact with a number of '45s and would like to hear from any who knew her dad. I invited her to attend our Norwich Inn luncheons when in our area. Her e-mail address is jcole@travelexperts. com. Belated thanks to Abby Donahue for the great picture of her grandfather, Douglas Donohue. Sorry it could not be published in this column. Many of you have undoubtedly read the news article that appeared in The New York Times on May 23 about President James Wrights visits to Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals to discuss with seriously wounded veterans of the war in Iraq their educational futures. He has also been instrumental in establishing a program to provide individualized college counseling to seriously injured veterans. This extraordinary humanitarian effort brings great credit to President Wright and to the College also. Fred Berthold delivered the baccalaureate address at Commencement this year. In addition, the College announced the creation of a new fellowship in his name honoring him as the first dean of the William Jewett Tucker Foundation. The Berthold Fellowship provides for a graduate student at the College to work for the Tucker Foundation for a year, creating opportunities for the exploration of the relationship between faith and service. Potential donors and those interested in more information should contact the Tucker Foundation at Dartmouth College.
Congratulations to Fred for this well-de-served honor. Don't forget the mini-mini in Florida in March 2008. For details contact John White, (207) 865-6957.
