Hope everyone had a great summer. The weather was beautiful here in Pennsylvania—sunny and dry, for the most part. One of the highlights of my summer was our annual trip to Lake Morey, Vermont, right up the road from Hanover. As always, my family and I stopped in Hanover, had lunch at Lous and checked out the newest facilities on campus on our walkabout. You should see the new baseball field they are building! No longer will our baseball team have to wait until May for the snow to melt and the field to dry out! I don't know how we managed without the state-of-the-art facilities that Dartmouth has now! I ran into Professor Rassias in Baker Library—he is still actively teaching and very involved in his summer language programs. He told me about members of the military coming to Dartmouth to learn the languages spoken in Iraq in his 10-day immersion program! He passes along a hello to all of his '77 former students and says to look him up next time you are in Hanover.
First to report, some news about Harry B. Wilson. Harry played on the football team at Dartmouth, briefly made an NFL run with the San Diego Chargers and then went to UVA Law School. He has been practicing law in Richmond, Virginia. Unfortunately, Harry has been debilitated by diabetes and recently had a leg amputated. After a fall at home he sustained a brain hemorrhage and as of this writing is in a coma. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Harry and his family.
Jeffrey Perry has done it again! He has published his second volume of poetry, titled Conversations with a Soul Brother. It expresses the soul and spirit of the African-Americans plight in American history, past, present and future.
Blair Thompson wrote: "During the Memorial Day weekend I was in need of some fun so I headed to San Francisco to celebrate Kevin Lally's birthday. We went to a great Vietnamese restaurant, Thanh Long, strapped on bibs and ate whole-roasted crab, drunken crab and garlic noodles! There was butter everywhere! No visit to the Bay Area is complete without a brief visit to Napa/ Sonoma. We toured a couple of champagne wineries and finished the day watching Law & Order. All in all, a great celebration.
