In case you missed the Nov/Dec 2007 DAM piece about a classmate, its message is well worth repeating. I quote, in part, "Eugene Jones '37 eight years ago attended a seminar sponsored by the American Symphony Orchestra League on the impact of arts on student learning." He was so fired up, at 84 years of age, "he founded Opening Minds Through the Arts, providing $50,000 in seed money for a program that now brings more than 50 professional musicians, dancers and artists from such organizations as the Tucson Symphony and Arizona Opera into Tucson classrooms. In September Jones was awarded a $100,000 Purpose Prize by Civic Ventures, given to people over 60 who are engaged in transforming social projects."
Flashback! Years ago Fran (Fenn) and I enjoyed a delightful pre-symphony dinner with Gene and Ruth in the Tucson Art Center. Unfortunately, we never heard the anticipated program. The bus from Flagstaff carrying the musicians' instruments had been held up by too much snow.
Several classmates have mentioned their appreciation of Bill Rotch's dedication to the Mint Bag and his extraordinary writing ability. They well understand his waning energy and Patty's health problems. It is good to know Bill is still writing weekly columns for the Milford, New Hampshire, paper.
Recently I received a letter from Marilyn Martin in the development office reporting on Neil Kandler '09, the Francis T. Fenn Jr. 1937 Scholar. I never will forget how moved Fran was when he was told that one of the three class scholarships was in his name.
