Hail, noble '72s, far and wide!

Your humble scribe has returned to the helm and bids all the happiest possible New Year! I send my heartfelt thanks again to our estimable co-scribe Charlie Schudson for his wonderful column in the last issue of this magazine. Be assured—you will be hearing from Charlie again!

News has arrived from various quarters since last we met. Bill Schur has been lauded in the October issue of Chicago Lawyer magazine for his work as a solo practitioner. Bill tells me he is in regular contact with Phil Cohen in Vancouver, British Columbia, who is still practicing nuclear medicine while providing Bill with insights on Canadian mining and energy stocks. Also in the legal department, Ralph Child has been honored as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer for 2007 along with three other Dartmouth alumni. Nominees are selected by 31,000 practicing attorneys in the state, then reviewed by an independent panel. Only 5 percent of all lawyers in the state achieve the distinction of being named a Super Lawyer. Ralph practices with the Mintz Levin firm in Boston. Congratulations, Ralph, and please drop me a line with more about what you've been doing since we left Hanover!

Bill Price is delighted to announce the impending publication of his new book, The BestService Is No Service: How to Liberate Your Customersfrom Customer Service, Keep Them Happy and Control Costs. Several amusing images passed through my mind when I first read the title, but a little research convinced me Bill is really on to something here. Should make for some worthwhile reading! Check out Amazon.com for more details.

The legacy list grows with the acceptance into the class of 2012 of Jack Mannings daughter Molly. Kirk Friedland, enjoying life in West Palm Beach, now has to invest in a winter wardrobe for his daughter Zoe, also a proud '12. I am quite confident there are others whose sons and daughters will be joining us in Hanover, so I would love to hear from you, too!

Our fearless leader John Burke sends his best wishes to all for a healthy, happy and successful New Year. Burkie is soliciting ideas and commentary for a mini-reunion in a non-New England setting. If you have suggestions please let him know at jdownesburke@aol.com.

On a sad note, I just learned of the passing of our classmate David Boyce, who died unexpectedly on September 8. David had been living in Jacksonville, Florida, for the past 22 years. He had a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy and was very active in local civic organizations. David didn't graduate with us but he was still one of our brothers. We extend our sincere condolences to his family.

As 2008 dawns I am happy to report all is well in Hanover. With our students away for the holidays, especially at twilight the campus takes on an almost dreamy atmosphere. It's a beautiful place in all seasons but alas, I am preaching to the choir!

Be well, dear brothers, and may the New Year bring peace to all.

Ever yours in green.
