It was Thursday. I wanted to go to Hanover on Friday for a Class Officers Weekend. But at what price? I had to be in DeKalb County Superior Court for a plea at nine o'clock. Would the Honorable William Smith reschedule? "Pleas are only taken on the first Friday of the month," his honor announced. My alternative: either stay and plea or go and be on one-hour notice for the next two weeks. Being on one-hour notice is just short of being sentenced to Alcatraz. However, in the spirit of loyalty I went to Hanover and took my punishment later and for two weeks could not eat lunch without checking in with the judge's office. My client, the shoeshine guy who was "losing" the shoes of some top executives, got probation.
The hottest news of the summer: DougLind married Louise Bonner, in Whangamata, New Zealand, on Saturday, March 10, 1990. Representing Dartmouth were best men Rick O. Williams, John Fisher, Stephen Allison, and Blake Winchell '75. Dick Ellsworth led a resounding chorus of "Men of Dartmouth." For the honeymoon, Doug and Louise and Rick and his wife took a hike on Milford Track (the most beautiful hike in the world) where the "boys" were required to stay in one tent and the "girls" in the other. Nice start, Doug.
