Hail, noble '72s, far and wide!
I pen these words between Christmas and New Year's Day realizing that they won't reach you until late February, so I shan't dwell on holiday greetings and the like, save to say I hope all had a wonderful season with families and friends and that 2009 has begun well for you.
I'm sure many among us have been following national and international events very carefully and trying to plan our lives and futures amidst unprecedented volatility and uncertainty. Certainly our College has felt the effects of the downturn and we are making significant adjustments to preserve the quality and character of the educational experience we offer our students.
But this is not the place for dire musings, so let's move to some really good news! From our brother Joe Davis in Dallas, this report: "I recently made contact with YoungDawkins, who has married a Scottish lass and is working for the University of Edinburgh. Has been there four years and sounds like he is thoroughly enjoying life there. My contact with Young was made through Linkedln. If you sign up (it's free) and tell them you are a Dartmouth '72, you'll get the chance to link with other '72s. Seems to be a good way to stay in touch and keep those e-mail lists upto-date." Aye, Young, me lad, 'tis for sure we send ye our best wishes and congratulations! Now, how about some details?
From Charlie Schudson, "Thanksgiving dinner was upended when our daughter- in-law delivered our second grandchild—at home, as we were popping the other turkey out of the oven. With children and grandchildren nowlivingin northern Virginia, Karen and I are hoping to move to the D.C. area. Please let me know if you know of any opportunities for a judge-mediator-lawyer-teacher-cheesehead! Its been a busy autumn. In addition to lots of legal consulting and mediation, I've taught three classes at the Marquette and Wisconsin law schools, most notably 'Preparing Lawyers for Life,' a course I was asked to create to help law students prepare for their personal/ professional/ethical challenges. If you know of law firms, law schools or bar associations needing help in this area, please let me know." Congratulations, Charlie!
On the local political front from our brother David Watters: "I was elected in November to the New Hampshire legislature, representing Strafford District 4, Dover, New Hampshire."
I also received news of our esteemed brother Greg Yadley, who was the guest speaker at a meeting of lawyers and accountants on December 4, 2008, sponsored by the business law section of the St. Petersburg Bar Association. Greg's presentation was titled "Preparing a Family Business for Sale." Greg has had tremendous success and impact on the practice of law in Florida, among the states leading barristers. Always a pleasure to report on your achievements, my friend!
May 2009 be a happy, healthy and prosperous year for us all!
Best always in green.
