I thought I would start off this set of notes with a pair of stories involving former college roommates of mine.

The first comes from way back in October, when I had a chance to spend some time with Ben Crawford, who came up with tickets for us to Game 5 of the ALCS when Boston was at Cleveland. Led by our cheering, the Red Sox won that game, and didn't lose again on their way to the World Series title.

The second chance encounter was a little more somber—as I was driving up the Newjersey Turnpike in late November my car broke down near the Vince Lombardi rest stop. While waiting for a tow truck, and not knowing where to bring my car, I suddenly remembered: Tom Brodie! I called Tom, he hooked me up with his garage and all ended well. It pays to have friends in high places (or, in this case, Maplewood, New Jersey).

Another meeting that took place in the fall was with Jill (Goldberg) Arnold and her husband and kids, at the Notre Dame-Villanova soccer game here in Philadelphia. The significance, of course, was that Bobby Clark, who coached the Big Green when we were there, is now the Notre Dame coach. Afterward, Bobby was telling pretty much anyone who would listen—and pretty much everyone listens to him—that Jill was the best manager he ever had (I'm sure Lynne (Schiffman) Delise would debate that, but they were a darn good team). Jill actually got to relive those days for real, as she set up Notre Dame's dinner the night before.

Baby update! According to Samir Desai, "wife Nilam and I have switched from doubleteam to man-to-man coverage; Roshan Samir Desai was born on October 30. He came in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces and 21 inches in length. Mommy and Roshan are doing great. Daddy and big sister Seleena are very excited." Congrats, my man! I'm just happy you don't yet have to go to a nickel package (and you probably are, too).

For those of you who were looking for Steve Frinsko at the reunion back in June, he regrets not being there. However, as he said, he had a pretty good excuse: "I was in the process of moving my family and all of our belongings from Sun Valley to Moscow, Idaho, so that I could begin at the University of ldaho's College of Law. After 15 years away from the world of academia it was a bit of a shock to be expected to do homework again. But it's all for a good cause, and in May of 20101 will graduate with my J.D. and start off on my next career.

"Just before we left Sun Valley I had a chance to catch up with Jason Brickley, who was in town from San Francisco with his wife and baby daughter," Steve continued. "Hosting the party were Courtney Gilbert and Jim Keating 93, who are now living in Sun Valley. Everyone seemed to be doing well with careers, families, etc. However, as was painfully demonstrated on Mr. Keating's regulation-sized backyard table, most of us have forgotten how to play pong."
