It is now just more than a year before our 70th reunion, October 2-4, 2009. President Lou Oldershaw persuaded me to chair what will be 1939's last five-year reunion, and Evelyn and I will do our best to make it memorable. One special incentive for you to attend: Dartmouth will be picking up the entire tab for your room at the HanoverInn and College-hosted meals. So your main expense will simply be the round-trip travel cost. Be sure to put this on your calendar.

When the Class of 1939 Scholarship Fund was started in 1967 we asked the College to give preference to student-athletes in selecting recipients of aid from this endow ment. Through the years we have received many fine thank-you letters from our scholarship students. These are much too long for our limited space, but here are brief quotes from a few recent letters.

Susan Dunklee '08 (cross-country running, skiing): "I'll never forget cheering alongside my teammates at the bottom of Attitash Mountain as our last alpine racer finished and we knew we had won [the 2007 NCAA National Skiing Championship]."

Derek Stenquist 'lO (soccer): "You make my Dartmouth experience possible, and I can't thank you enough except to promise to take advantage of my time here and to pursue my passions and social awareness in hope of making a positive impact on my world in the future." Darcy Rose 'O9 (women's basket- ball): "I'm trying some new things outside the classroom. I became an active member of the student-athlete advisory committee, was elected to the Green Key Society and this summer [2007] am attending a leadership workshop for varsity athletes." These are all fine young people.
