Welcome to the newest club within our alumni network—the Dartmouth Club of the Florida Keys. With Sid Goldman '6O as president, Mark Moss '77 as treasurer/ secretary and Duncan Matthewson '6O as vice president/district enrollment officer, the club has received official sanction from the Cosllege and is off and running. In addition to his club responsibilities, Duncan is currently involved in a re-election campaign for the Monroe County school board. Many of the club's contemplated events involve bringing people from up north down to enjoy the Keys, including invitations to Dartmouth swim team coaches to hold some winter practice sessions down there. Sid offers tremendous enthusiasm for both the club and the College and has expressed strong willingness to be an ambassador for alums interested in the Florida Keys—take him up on it. One additional note: We see quite a few '6os in club leadership positions around the country—the class with a 68.9 Alumni Fund participation rate in 2008 is also providing countless hours of dedicated time to the College. Thank you! The Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod, with a leadership team including Jim Taylor's7, Tom Murphy '6O, Rod Hinkle '57, John Citron '57, Bob Burgess '63, BrooksThayer'Bl and Tracey Taylor Eastman 'B7, sponsored its annual dinner meeting at the Ridge Club in Cape Cod in June. The event featured Ed Haldeman '7O, chair of the board of trustees of the College, who provided an update on current happenings at the Cosllege. In addition to his board responsibilities with the College, Haldeman is president and CEO of Putnam Investments, a mutual fund company based in Boston. In April the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Big Apple Circus with fellow Dartmouth alums. Jennifer Bordeau 'O6 helped to organize the event. This is fitting, as Paul Binder '63, a professional juggler, cocreated the Big Apple Circus. Leigh Heeter Fiske 'O4 and Daniela Osorio 'O7 serve as Greater Boston's young alumni chairs, organizing meetings at different bars on the first Saturday of each month. The Dartmouth Lawyers Association is having its 24th annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on October 16-18. The association has as its keynote speaker the Hon. Laurence H. Silberman '57, U.S. Senior Circuit judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia. Other notable alums serving as speakers for the event include Russ Granik '69, former deputy commissioner of the NBA; Ken Gordon '9l, ESPN counsel; and Jacque Steinberg 'BB, New York Times columnist. The event will also include a welcoming cocktail reception honoring Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand 'BB, Dartmouth's first alumnae congressional representative, and other alumni who have served in Congress. According to Wikipedia, more than 164 Dartmouth graduates have served in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. The same source lists eight Dartmouth governors of New Hampshire and three Dartmouth grads governing the state of Maine. The Dartmouth Club of Los Angeles may win for best Web site at the current moment: go to their site and check out the surfer guy. Perhaps the Florida Keys can borrow that picture. Kudos to the club leadership team, which consists of Alex Bodnar '9l, Jethro Rothe-Kushel 'O3, Ann Fromholz '9O and Suzanne Gilman 'BO for putting on club summer events that included an alumni seminar on "Global Positioning: The Rise of China and India as Economic Superpowers." Dartmouth professors Joseph Massey, Ph.D., and Dirk Vandewalle, Ph.D., made the trip to run the seminar, which was much appreciated by our alums.
