It's the day after Christmas as I write, and I'm happy to report that we did our part to stimulate the economy. My husband, however, doesn't think of our prosperous Christmas as "stimulating the economy." I think classmate Tim Geithner, who by the time you read this will be confirmed as Secretary of the Treasury, would agree with me. Lots of press on Tim, as well as a Facebook page. Old news...on to new news. We've put out our first class newsletter and by the time you read this, we may be almost finished with our second! (If you didn't get a copy of the newsletter and want one, let me know.) I've received a couple more responses to my question to my fellow Mid- Massers. Pete Barry is in North Carolina, working for Wachovia (at least he was...we hope he's working for Wells Fargo now)! His favorite Mid-Mass activity was the Mid- Mass Downhill. Courtenay Newton became my Facebook friend to tell me that her favorite Mid-Mass memory was also the Downhill. Courtney is living in Seattle and is a grad student at Bastyr University, focusing on naturopathic medicine. For those of you who didn't have the opportunity to participate in the Downhill, a few brave souls would strap on a helmet and skis and actually ski down the four flights of stairs. Their bravado was usually fueled by liftline punch. I doubt the Downhill is still in existence—does anyone know? One South Masser who was definitely at the Downhill our freshman year was Joey Gallinghouse. Joey left us for Tulane after freshman year but managed to find me on Facebook. (Are you spotting the theme yet?) Joey lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife and two sons. After graduating from Tulane he attended LSU School of Medicine. Joey is a cardiac electrophysiologist at Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia. Don't think I want to run into him, on a professional basis anyway! Phil Ruder was at our reunion but we caught up through Facebook. Phil is a professor of economics at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. "The silver lining of the present economic crises is that students come to class really interested in economic news. Even though I teach applied microeconomics classes, I have been spending a portion of each class going over the news regarding housing prices, mortgage debts, bailouts, etc." Richard Goldman and Steve Brosnihan have published a how-to-draw book, AnyoneCan Draw Cartoonagrarns. The book puts into print a method of cartooning Steve has been developing and teaching for the past 18 years. Richard translated the manuscript into book format and served as editor. Steves company, Fly By Knight Designs, publishes the book. Steve was married in September of 2006 and was honored by a tremendous showing of Dartmouth '83s. Among the guests were Richard Goldman, Jeff Teich, Dan Veno, Stu Downs, Paul Efthim, Dave Badger and Bob Teeter. Susan and Steve live in Bristol, Rhode Island. They're expecting their first child in April. Kevin Jones left the basketball court for a few years, only to reappear recently as a coach of the boy's basketball team at KIPP Academy Charter School in Bronx, New York. He also teaches seventh-grade social studies. Deb Ellsworth and her husband built a huge catamaran, are cruising the Caribbean and home schooling their kids on the boat! Lastly, a group of 20 construction lawyers from now-dissolved law firm Thelen LLP just moved to Duane Morris in the New York office, including our classmate John Wojak Jr. John is a partner in the construction area. Until the next time, forever green!
