The Big Green Bus started out five years ago with the tagline “change your fuel, change the world.” Since then the participating Dartmouth students have driven thousands of miles across the country, with vegetable oil in their gas tank and a message of sustainability on their lips. This summer students have designed and purchased a brand new bus, and they have a revamped message to match. They no longer advocate replacing gas with waste vegetable oil (which still fuels the Big Green Bus) and now spread the more feasible message of changing one’s lifestyle in order to reduce carbon emissions and ecological footprints.
“Thanks to collaboration with students, faculty and administrators all throughout the College, the bus will be a significantly improved educational space as well as, more practically, a better vehicle to travel around the country,” says co-manager Kate Parizeau ’10, a geography major who’ll lead a team of 14 students on this summer’s tour. An expanded itinerary includes more cities in the South and Midwest. For more info go to www.thebiggreenbus.org.
