A card from Lee andCharlie Goldsmith tells us of their move within West Palm Beach, Fla., to The Fountainview, 101 Executive Center Drive, Apt. 2-412, 33401. We wish them much happiness in their new environment. So many at our age are moving from their homes to an easier lifestyle. When any of you do, please let us know so friends can keep in touch.

A letter from Louis Conant's ('26) daughter tells of a winter climb to the top of Mt. Washington in December 1996 led by Bob Monahan. Hal Leich, Louis Conant, and French Professor Warren Montsie made it a foursome. After they reached the summit in the evening, the clouds lifted and the nearly full moon provided a magnificent view and 75 miles distant the blinking lights of Portland's harbor lighthouse.

In leafing through a November 1957 Alumni Magazine we made some comparisons with our December 1996 issue, and thought they may be of interest. In '57 the earliest Class Notes were by 1886, which then had been out of college 71 years. There were 43 pages of alumni notes, many pictures, and few ads. In '96 the first Class Notes were 1920, 76 years out (longer lives?), 27 pages of notes with more ads but also pictures.

Our secretary then was Chris Born, and our news had a picture of Jack Pillsbury, commander U.S. Navy, stationed in London, England.

Rip is still into politics: "All rulers in our government of reason seem bereft,

Whether chosen or elected from the Right or from the Left.

If they're sweethearts when they get there they too suddenly go sour

From inflation of their egos and the toxic taint of power.

Now to fix it if it isn't broken we agree is dumb

But from what we see in Washington I'll say the time has come."
