Celebrating its first anniversary as one of Dartmouth's newest and smallest alumni clubs, the Dartmouth Alumni Club of the Virgin Islands organized in May its second annual flotilla of sailboats and circumnavigated the British Virgin Islands in about nine days. The club's charter members include Gerry Hills '68 of St. John, Virgin Islands: Ed Jereb '66 of Philadelphia; Kevin Swenson '71 of Rye, New Hampshire; Tom Laughlin '6B of Naples, Florida; Wayne LoCurto '68 of Westport, Connecticut; Norm Silverman '68 of Grosse Point, Michigan; Bruce Streibich '72 of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; Tom Zurich '73 of Tortola, British Virgin Islands; Jack Hopke '6B of River Ridge, Louisiana: Rick Wild '73 of Decatur, Georgia; and Bill Buck '63 of St. Croix, Virgin Islands. This year's flotilla was joined by new club members David Boyle '69, Jim Lawrie '6B, Gerry Bell '6B, Larry Griffith '6B, Bill Web- ster '65 and Bob Ernst '65, along with spouses and guests. The flotilla's four sailboats—captained by Geriy Hills, Norm "Commodore" Silverman, Larry Griffith and Bill Webster—carried their alumni crews during the day to swimming, snorkeling and sightseeing locations on Norman Island, Pe- ter Island, Cooper Island, Great Camanoe Island, Virgin Gorda Island and Jost Van Dyke Island. Evenings were spent at island restaurants enjoy- ing good food, fellowship, rum, Dartmouth songs and hits from the 19605. The club is planning a third annual flotilla in May 2015. Alumni, spouses and guests are invited to join club members for Flotilla 111. You need not be an experienced sailor to participate. Information about next year's flo- tilla can be obtained by contacting Gerry Hills at stjohncaptain@aol.com.
What activities did your alumni club organize this summer? Email me a few details of outings, hikes, a Dartmouth on Location event or informal get-togethers. Include the names and class years of the organizers and some of the alums and un- dergrads who attended. Whenever two or more alumni gather in the name of Dartmouth, it is a reportable event. Your good ideas and innovative activities can inspire other clubs. Share your suc- cesses, your fun and your fellowship experiences.
