Dartmouth Clubs and Groups have been busy with a lot of fun events recently.

John Bash ’67, president of the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota and Manatee, reported that on November 18 John Adler ’49 discussed his book America’s Most Influential Journalist: The Life, Times and Legacy of Thomas Nast. Adler’s freshman-year roommate Joel Berson ’49 provided anecdotes on their experiences. Ringling College of Arts and Design professor Skylar Smith, MALS’15, described helping on the book’s illustrations. Visiting from Utah, ex-football player Brad Kliber ’85 commented on this year’s rebuilding season. Former football and rugby player Bill Wellstead

’63 talked about the national championship of the women’s rugby team. The club rewarded former golf team member Tom Hopkins ’69 a Dartmouth golf cap for his 23 years of service as treasurer. On December 16 Mike Meehan ’72 recounted his sponsorship of a contest for the best undergraduate essay on the 1987 U.S. Continental Convention. The winner, Greg Mesa ’22, described the differing views of three delegates to that convention who came together to benefit the new nation.

An update was provided from Carolyn Choi ’90, co-president of the Dartmouth Club of Oregon. The club held its annual holiday party at the house of Melaura Wittemyer ’92 in early December. In attendance were Laura Bright ’96, Mike Budwig ’84, Shannon Buxell, Med’21, Devon Carew ’96, Homer Chin, Med’80, and family, Allen Denison ’69, Scott Emery ’72, Ron Gatzke ’75, Steve Getsiv ’87, Sharon Grayzel ’87, Dick Hanson ’64 and wife Deanna, Rebecca Mehr ’00, Matt Reid ’94 and Peggy Reid, Tu’98, David Rutlen ’69, Katherine Sasaki ’96, Nancy Vincent ’81, Hana Warmflash ’20, Fred Weam ’74, Carolyn Choi and family, and current students Nate Foster ’25, George Jackson ’26, Mike Hart ’26, Alisan Sasaki ’25, and Madeleine Stewart ’25. The club is looking forward to a more regular schedule of events in 2023!

David Dietze ’78, president ofthe Dartmouth Club of Suburban New Jersey, reports that alums, family, and friends came together for a day of service at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside. The food bank is the state’s largest anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization and has served more than 80,000,000 meals annually since Covid began. Big rouse to service chair Joseph Dempsey ’83 for leading the event! The club held its annual holiday party at the home of David Dietze and extended a hearty congratulations to five newly admitted earlydecision Dartmouth applicants!

The Dartmouth Club of Southwestern New Hampshire held its annual dinner meeting on December 14. Professor Matthew Delmont was the guest speaker. It was a highly successful first post-Covid meeting. Thanks to Roger Hansen ’65 for the update.
