Clubs & Groups

Dartmouth clubs and groups have been holding great events for our alumni community, as always.

I was glad to catch up with Sarah (Piecuch) ’99 and Dominic ’01 Germana in person this summer while they were on vacation in Jackson, Wyoming. They shared that they had recently attended an amazing event put on by the Dartmouth Club of the Piedmont. North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein ’88 and First Lady Anna Stein—parents of a Dartmouth ’21, ’23, and ’26—hosted the club’s largest gathering ever, with more than 250 members of the Dartmouth family descended upon the N.C. executive mansion to welcome the class of2029. At this incredible event the club held a silent auction of Dartmouth memorabilia and raised more than $1,000 for the Dartmouth Club ofthe Piedmont Scholarship Fund. Thank you to Betsy Booth Scalco ’87, club president, and all the volunteers who made this amazing event happen!

John Bash ’67, president ofthe Dartmouth Club of Sarasota and Manatee, Florida, wrote in to share that on May 16 Dr. Fredric Jarrett ’63, Med’65, spoke on “Royal Surgical Operations” involving such personages as King Edward VII and King Saud. He also provided anecdotes about some of his operations, including one on a patient he subsequently discovered was a Mafia debt collector nicknamed “The Dangler” for his technique of dangling debtors out of windows until they agreed to pay. University of Tampa professor Barbara Stubbs, Adv’12, described giving the club’s book award to a promising local high school student. The book was The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents ofElectricity and Hope by William Kamkwamba ’14, who had addressed the club in February 2022.

Jeffrey Carton ’88 provided news from the Dartmouth Lawyers Association. On July 10 Patricia Liverpool ’13 hosted summer drinks at her offices at Paul Hastings, where Jason Jones ’98, Ernst & Young Americas and U.S. vice chair and general counsel and former general counsel ofthe FBI, presented remarks.

Carrie Rosenblum ’10 shared that the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston recently hosted a guided walk for roughly 40 of its members at the World’s End reservation along the coast south of Boston. It was led by Big Green representatives from the Trustees of Reservations, the owner and conservator of World’s End, including president and CEO Katie Theoharides ’04, chief of staff Gerben Scherpbier ’14, and regional VP of the Southeast and Islands, Anne Smith-White ’93.

Julieta Feltrin ’17 sent in an update from the artmouth Club of South Florida. The club hosted a series of “Cafecito Chats” (casual coffee meetups) across Miami this summer. These fun, low-key gatherings provided a great way to bring together local alumni and students and build community in a relaxed setting. The one on July 19 was held at Casa Nane in Brickell. These events were put together by Julieta and her sister. Jessica Feltrin ’23.

Thank you for all you do for the Dartmouth alumni community! Please send me updates about the great events that you and your club members have organized.
