In celebration of the birthday anniversary of Daniel Webster, the oak tree in which he hung his scythe upon deciding to go to Dartmouth has been given a place in the Hall of Fame for trees with a history. The nomination of the tree was made by Frank A. Hancock of Franklin, N. H., which, then known as Salisbury, was the birthplace of Webster, January 18, 1782. The path from the tree led Webster to Congress and to the office of Secretary of State. Mr. Hancock has lived near the famous oak for nearly 60 years.
