LEDYARD CANOE CLUB BUILDS CABIN
February 1921

The first cabin of the Ledyard Canoe Club was recently opened on what is popularly known as the "third island," at the junction of the Ompompanoosuc and Connecticut rivers, about five miles north of Hanover. This is the first of a chain of huts which the club plans to build northward along the river. Construction was made possible by the gift of $5000 from Dr. J. E. Johnson '66, in whose honor the cabin was officially named the "Johnny Johnson" cabin.

The new hut is 13 by 21 feet in dimensions with a large fireplace. There is ample firewood on the island and blankets, kitchen utensils, dishes and candles are supplied as in the Outing Club chain of cabins. There is accommodation here for five men over night.

A further gift to the club by Mr. Johnson is a large silver loving cup upon which are to be inscribed the names of those members who make the "Ledyard journey" from Hanover to the sea, by canoe.
