Following the season's opening in Hanover with games against Clarkson and Norwich, the Dartmouth basketball team, under coaches Zahn and Cullen, departed on the annual Christmas conditioning trip begun with a contest in Brooklyn, December 20, with the Brooklyn University Club.

The Brooklyn team displayed unexpected strength and at the end of the first half of the game led. the Hanover team by a score of 16 to 9. In the latter half of the game Dooley opened a brilliant Dartmouth rally by scoring nine points and was followed by the Green team to the extent of five baskets which brought the Dartmouth total to 33 points. Captain Friedman's team held the scant lead throughout the final minutes of play and the game ended at a score of Dartmouth 33, Brooklyn 30.

Playing against the New York University team the following night, December 21, Dartmouth won its fourth successive game by a score of 31 to 26. The New York team made stern bids for the game, particularly during the first half of the contest and led by a single point at the intermission. The loss of two men in the final half, weakened the New York team and allowed the Dartmouth five to gain the lead.

Dartmouth met its first defeat, December 22, when the strong Crescent Club team revenged itself for the Green victories of a year ago and won a 45 to 36 decision. Dartmouth held a three point lead over the club team at the end of the first half of the game but was unable to withstand the strong rally of the Brooklyn team in the final period.

At Syracuse, January 4, Dartmouth was again defeated when the Syracuse University team won by the margin of a single basket, the final score resting at 18 to 16. Dartmouth was held to but three field goals during the entire game but scored 10 points out of 21 chances by free throws after fouls.

At Utica, N. Y., January 5, the Dartmouth team took an early lead against Colgate and won by a score of 33 to 22. Captain Friedman distinguished himself during the trip, scoring a total of SO points in the five games played.

Dartmouth opened its Intercollegiate League season at Ithaca, "N. Y., January 12, and after holding a one point lead until the last five minutes of play was defeated by Cornell 17 to 12.

Both teams struggled furiously throughout the first half of the game which ended in a deadlock at five points apiece. Early in the second half, a basket from the floor and another from the free throw line, both by Sailer, gave the Hanover team a three point lead. The Cornell team cut away this lead shortly afterwards, Capron scoring a free throw and Raymond a goal from the field. At this point in the contest Shaneman replaced Dooley in the Dartmouth lineup and put the Green team again in the lead with two free throws. Dake and Capron started the Cornell rally which netted three baskets from the floor and gave Cornell a margin of five points over the Dartmouth team.

For Dartmouth, Friedman, who scored five points, was the attacking leader. Capron, the Cornell captain, was easily the star of the Ithaca team, scoring more than half of its point total.
