Dr. Arthur H. Ruggles '02, superintendent of the Butler hospital, Providence, R. I., will shortly take up tha work of the late Dr. Bancroft as Consultant in Mental Hygiene in connection with the office of Personnel Director R. W. Husband, according to an announcement from the office of the President recently. It is probable that he will be in Hanover at intervals of two weeks, for two-day periods during which he will keep appointments made for him through Professor Husband.
Dr. Ruggles, who is one of the most widely known of American specialists in Mental Hygiene, rendered distinguished service to three governments during the great war and was awarded the Croix de Guerre with bronze star.
During the war his services were borrowed from the United States by England and by France for both of which countries he installed and developed the work in mental hygiene and by both of which he was appointed Consulting Psychiatrist. Dr. Ruggles saw active service at Belleau Wood, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Mont Blanc Ridge and in the Argonne.
Following his graduation from Dartmouth in 1902 Dr. Ruggles studied at the Dartmouth and Harvard Medical Schools, receiving the degree of M.D. in 1906 at the latter place. In 1911 he received the degree of M.A. from Dartmouth.
In college Dr. Ruggles was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and Casque and Gauntlet. In 1901 he was a member of the Junior Prom Committee. He was assistant manager of football in 1900 and in 1901 became manager of football and a member of the Athletic Council.
