Dartmouth 4 Harvard 3

For the second consecutive year Dartmouth overcame the jinx which has in the past repeatedly trailed it in its encounters with the Harvard hockey team and won by a 4 to 3 score in the Boston Arena, Feb. 23. The game was reported as one of the fastest and cleanest exhibitions of hockey seen in Boston this season and was featured by smart playing on the part of both teams.

The climax of the contest came in the last minutes of play when Manser, of Dartmouth sent the deciding tally into the Harvard net after Hammond had tied the score for the Crimson early in the period. Manser's goal was the result of a spectacular shot in which after carrying the puck down the ice with Everett he made a dash for it as it dribbled before the net when both men were apparently well covered and caged it in a rush which sent him colliding into Hammond and Crosby of Harvard. He was carried from the ice unconscious and a substitution was made for him during the remaining few minutes of play.

Everett started the Dartmouth scoring after five minutes of play in the first period making a fast shot from outside the Harvard defense. After 40 seconds of play in the second period Manser scored the second Dartmouth gtoal when he took a pass from Captain Hall and made a successful shot from a difficult angle at left defense. Three more goals were tallied in the next five minutes of play, Beals, unaided, netting the first Harvard score of the game, Hall registering another brilliant shot for Dartmouth, and Beals scoring again by individual skill. Dartmouth led at the close of the period by a score of 3 to 2. Hammond, of Harvard, evened the count half way through the third period scoring with a terrific drive, but his effort was nullified by Manser's shot in the last two minutes of play.

Dartmouth 5 Pennsylvania 1

Preliminary to the game scheduled for March 1 with Princeton at Princeton the Dartmouth hockey team played an engagement in Philadelphia February 29, defeating the University of Pennsylvania team 5 to 1 in a contest whose outcome was never in doubt. Sheehy and Manser starred for Dartmouth, scoring two goals each, Perry adding the final tally. Pennsylvania's tally came as the result of a long shot which goal tend Learnard did not see.

Dartmouth 5 Princeton 4

Dartmouth closed a successful hockey season at Princeton March 1 by winning from Princeton in the Hobey Baker rink by a score of 5 to 4. Taking advantage of a momentary weakness in the Princeton defense the Hanover team which had been trailing at the short end of a 2 to 1 score when the first period closed opened a rapid fire at the Princeton net and scored four goals in the second period. The success of the Dartmouth team was largely due to coach Tuck's policy of working two fast sets of forwards in alternation, Lyon, Sheehy, and Sly starting the game to be replaced later by a still faster trio, Hall, Manser, and Everett. It was this second trio which was responsible for the total Dartmouth score, Hall and Manser each tallying twice and Everett once. Van Gerbig, scoring twice for Princeton, was the outstanding player of the Tiger team but was followed closely by Davis and Sayles, each of whom scored once. During the final period Van Gerbig and Davis played a brilliant offensive game arid their constant scoring threats were blocked only by the superior goal tending of Learnard. Starting the season inauspiciously under the handicap of poor weather and a lack of ice the Dartmouth team made rapid progress after the month of February brought clear, cold weather to Hanover. Although defeated twice by Yale and once by Princeton the team secured victories over Harvard, Princeton, M.I.T., the Army, Springfield, M.A.C., Pennsylvania, The St. Nicholas Club and the Berlin Hockey Club.

D. N. Everett '26 of Concord was elected captain of the Dartmouth 1925 hockey team by the Green letter men at a meeting held in the Alumni Gymnasium. Everett starred throughout the season at right wing on the varsity, coming up from the freshman team last year. He prepared for college at Colby Academy, and is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

The 1925 college sextet will suffer severely by the loss of six of the nine letter men from this year s squad. Captain Hall, Learnard, Lyon, Perry, Sheehy and Sly have played their last season for the Green, while Captain-elect Everett, Manser and Mills, sophomores, are the three remaining letter men available for the 1925 season.

Varsity letters were awarded to the following members of the Dartmouth hockey team : Captain R. B. Hall '25, E. H. Learnard '24, S. H. Lyon '24, D. A. Perry '24, F. E. Sheehy '24, J. B. Sly '24, D. N. Everett '26, G. E. Manser, Jr. '26, S. Mills '26.

The following members of the freshman hockey team were awarded their numerals: V. J. Duplin, Jr., H. B. Fryberger, Jr., W. B. Fryberger, C. L. Hardy, C. E. Lindenmeyer, T. N. O'Rourke and H. Rubin.
