Dartmouth's one-mile relay team which was entered in the relay games held by the University of Kansas at Lawrence, Kansas, April 19, gave stern chase to the championship four of the University of lowa and lost by a scant two yards a race in which, according to the conduct of the meet, the team running in the outside lane is under a much greater handicap than is usual in meets held in the east. Foster, Letteney, Colladay, and Bates, running for Dartmouth provided strong opposition for the lowa team which was forced to a time of 3 minutes 23 3/5 seconds to win. Northwestern University finished in third place and Notre Dame in fourth place.

The Dartmouth track team engaged in its first meet of the year at New Haven, May 3, trailing the teams of the University of Pennsylvania and Yale in a triangular affair. Pennsylvania was accorded the decision by the margin of a quarter of a point, scoring 55 1/2 to Yale's 55 1/4. Dartmouth's score was 24 1/4. The Dartmouth team furnished a surprising feature in contending on practically even terms with Yale and Pennsylvania in the track events, where it was expected to be weak, and in failing to !be a contender in the field events where it was expected to be strong. On the track the Green runners amassed 21 points to Penn's 33 1/2 and Yale's 26 1/4. First places went to Dartmouth when Crawford finished the half mile race in 2 minutes 2/5 seconds, and Bugbee ran the 120 yard high hurdles in 15 4/5 seconds. Captain Libbey tied with Scholpp, of Yale, and Sherrill and Owen, of Pennsylvania at 12 feet six inches in the pole vault. Canfield, of Dartmouth, made his best broad jump of the year wheri he leaped 23 feet 4 inches but was forced to use his next best distance, 22 feet S inches for his afternoon's score. Bates ran a stirring quarter mile race climbing from sixth place to second in a spectacular finish. Jerman, in the mile race, lost by only a narrow margin to Douglas, of Yale, one of the best milers in the east. The summary:

Dartmouth 71 1/6—Syracuse 62 5/6

Several good performances were recorded during the progress of the Dartmouth- Syracuse dual track meet at Hanover, May 10, in spite of the fact that two days of rain had left the track rather heavy. Individual honors went, by a long margin, to Chester Bowman, Syracuse football star, who won the 100 and 220 yard dashes, the 220 yard low hurdle race, and the broad jump. Bowman gave one of the finest exhibitions ever seen in Hanover. Other notable performances were the time of 49 4/5 seconds equalling the college record, which Bates, of Dartmouth established in the quarter mile, a three cornered Dartmouth tie in the pole vault, and the races run by Letteney, of Dartmouth, in the half mile, and by Jerman, of Dartmouth in the mile.
