ANNOUNCEMENT MADE OF FELLOWSHIP AWARDS

Announcement has been made from the President's office of the award of the six fellowships which are each year available for Dartmouth men who expect to carry on their scholastic work to a graduate school.

Andrew Warden Edson '25 is the recipient of the Charles O. Miller, Jr., Memorial Fellowship, which carries with it an annual stipend of $1000. The recipient of this fellowship is selected on a similar basis to that on which the Rhodes Scholarships are awarded, namely: qualities of manhood, force of character, and leadership; literary and scholastic ability and attainments; physical vigor, as shown by participation in outdoor sports or in other ways. Edson is planning to continue his studies either at Harvard or University of Chicago. He has been a member of the ski team for three years and is now a member of Palaeopitus. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.

William Hartman, Jr. '25 has been awarded the James B. Richardson Fellowship which also carries an annual- stipend of $1000. This fellowship, like the Miller Fellowship, carries the same conditions of award as those upon which Rhodes Scholars are selected. Hartman has recently been elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa and belongs to the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He expects to take his M.A. degree at Harvard next year.

Arthur Ernest Gordon, Jr. '23 has been awarded the William Jewett Tucker Fellovvship. This fellowship, carrying a stipend of usually $1000 a year, is offered by the alumni of the College through the medium of the Dartmouth College Alumni Fund. It is offered from time to time to exceptional men among the graduates of the College. During the past two years Gordon has been studying the classics at the American Academy at Rome, and he expects next year to continue his work in this field at the graduate school at Johns Hopkins University. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Charles Anthony Knudson, Jr. '24, the present .holder of the Henry Elijah Parker Fellowship, has been reawarded that fellowship for the coming year. Knudson has been studying French at Harvard this past year and the $1000 award that goes with this fellowship will enable him to continue his studies. While in College, he was a member of Le Cercle Francais for three years and was president of that organization during his senior year. He also served as a member of the Undergraduate Committee on Educational Policy, which submitted its report to the President last June. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, The Arts, and Epsilon Kappa Phi.

The George E. Chamberlin Fellowship of $1000 was reawarded to Robin Robinson '24, who expects to continue his work in Mathematics at Harvard. Robinson is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Shepard Holden Patterson '24 was reawarded the Richard Crawford Campbell, Jr. Fellowship, which carries with it an annual stipend of $1000. He is now doing graduate work at Columbia, but expects to spend the next year in attendance at Cambridge. While in College, Patterson was a member of Cabin and Trail for three years, and was secretary of the Outing Club during his senior year. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
