As a necessary step in the working out of the new junior managership plan for the athletic activities of the College, the Athletic Council has decided to start the policy of calling upon the freshman class to elect the members of the managers' competition in the spring of each year.
Not earlier than May 1, according to the new by-laws adopted by the council, the freshman class will elect from its own membership 25 competitors for the athletic managerships, the exact date of the election to be decided upon by the graduate manager.
These competitors will be chosen according to the rules and methods prescribed by the graduate manager, and the 25 men who receive the highest number of votes will immediately take up the routine work at the gymnasium as at present, and will be elected to the positions of assistant managers of the different sports early in May in the sophomore year. They will be required to serve in this capacity until the end of the college year, when they will become managers, to serve for a period of one year.
The new rules stipulate that no freshman shall be eligible as a candidate unless his scholarship ranking for the first semester shall have been at least 1.8, and at the end of the freshman year no competitor will be allowed to continue in the competition unless his average scholarship ranking for the entire semester shall have been at least 2.0.
To fill vacancies in the ranks of the competitors caused by failure to fulfill this scholarship requirement or by the failure to return to College of any sophomore competitor, the sophomore class will elect at the beginning of the year, on a date set by the graduate manager, enough candidates to bring the total number to 25. The procedure for this election will be substantially the same as the spring election.
