Write it in the records that the "Dartmouth in Dixie Dinner" was a big success. Alumni representing Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee gathered in Atlanta the weekend of April 3-4 and proceeded to enjoy themselves, re-establish contact with the old College and let Atlanta know that "Dartmouth's in town again!"

The baseball team arrived in Atlanta on March 30 and had a most successful series of games against Oglethorpe, Georgia and Georgia Tech. Numerous cheers from the alumni played their part at all these games. If any of the undergrads failed to meet Atlanta's prettiest girls, it wasn't the fault of the local reception committee, either.

But to get to the dinner, held at Atlanta's new six million dollar hotel, the Atlanta Biltmore, on the evening of Friday, April 3. Wives obligingly departed to a theatre party arranged for them and husbands gathered at 7 o'clock sharp to listen to Dean Craven Laycock speak on "The College."

And what an inspiring talk the Dean did give! One could go back in memory and see Jake Bond prowling around the dorms, or imagine Jim Campion selling some haberdashery at cost—while Dean Laycock carried us back on the wings of memory to the old campus. But his, too, was a message of the present and of the future—and an optimistic message it was.

Edward W. Knight, newly elected alumni trustee, was expected as one of the speakers of the occasion, but he was unfortunately obliged to cancel his trip. Southeastern alumni are counting on having Mr. Knight with them next year.

Joel G. Harris '15 gave an interesting report as secretary of the association. Incidentally, Joe deserves a lot of credit for the manner in which he has been handling the job. Allan C. Gottschaldt '18, president of the Southeastern Alumni Association, presided.

Others who made short talks at the dinner were: Howard W. Hall '01 of Atlanta, C. E. Langley '07 of Rockingham, N. C., M. L. Stimson '78 of' Atlanta, C. G. Van Cleve '21 of Haines City, Fla., M. W. Adams '81 of Atlanta and Walter B. Elcock '12 of Atlanta.

Stephen W. Ryan '25, manager of the baseball team, and Captain "Hank" Bjorkman '25 told of the squad's appreciation of the hospitality accorded them in Atlanta and expressed the hope that the southern trip would be a fixture on the Dartmouth schedule. With few exceptions every member of the varsity squad was present at the dinner, and in addition Frankie Smith and Shaneman, of last year's team, managed to get to Atlanta for the festivities.

Alumni present included: Joel G. Harris 'IS, L. H. Rector '19, H. F. Jones '24, N. D. Ryder '24, Fred P. Lowe '15, F. S. Perham '03, Howard W. Hall '01, K. K. Stowell '16, Charles F. Palmer '18, R. G. Wright '06, A. V. Gustafson '18, M. L. Stimson '78, Dr. C. W. Tucker '16, WB. Elcock '12, James Frame '10, M. W. Adams '81, H. A. Wason '99, and Allan C. Gottschaldt '18-all of Atlanta; and A. Pollack Boyd '22 and Joseph H. Lane '21 of Chattanooga, Tenn.: John Q. Eaton '93 and John Clough '09 of Memphis, Tenn.; Dodge Taylor '22 of Howey, Fla., C. G. Van Cleve '21 of Haines City, Fla., S. V. Goldiere '19 of Davidson, N. C., C. E. Langley '07 of Rockingham, N. C., John D. Pendleton '15 of Charlotte, N. C.

The Southeastern Alumni Association is privileged to welcome into its fold the Dartmouth Club of St. Petersburg, Fla. An organization meeting was held in St. Petersburg in March and was unusually well attended by alumni in that section of Sunnyland.

Although it is probable that during the summer luncheons will be held only once a month, Dartmouth men who travel through Atlanta are urged to get in touch with the secretary and see if a get-together is not scheduled for one of the days they happen to be sojourning here. Atlanta luncheons are regularly held the first and third Fridays of each month at the Ansley Hotel.

The "Dartmouth in Dixie Dinner" which has just become an event of the past is the seventh annual meeting held by the Southeastern Association. Another big party is planned for this fall, on the occasion of "Dartmouth Night."
