JEFF BORKOWSKI brings art to "regular" people.

"I'm trying to make art more accessible, and put money right into artists' hands," says Borkowski of his new artists collective, Scintus Images. The name for the Somerville, Massachusetts-based firm comes from the Latin word scintilla, meaning "a spark"—for those moments when "art just clicks," he says. The company launched last January, with a first opening in Boston's Locco Ritoro Gallery. By coincidence, the eight artists involved so far all share a connection to Dartmouth; they're alums, professors or spouses of College staff.

And while Borkowski's own art is represented (under the pseudonym Seuss, of course), his greatest contribution to the company is in the reproduction of the artists' work, through printing and digital printing processes he spent three years mastering. Those prints, available along with the originals on the company's Web site, scintus.com, are designed to bring art to "regular, middle-class people," he says. "We want people to find it all interesting—catch their eye, find something they really appreciate or like."
