FIELD HOUSE DEDICATED AS SEASON OPENS
NOVEMBER, 1926

The new Davis Field House was formally dedicated September 25 when the donor, H. C. Davis, '06, made the presentation to President E. M. Hopkins on the steps of the new building just before the Dartmouth-Norwich game. The ceremony preceded the annual Delta Alpha parade, which for years has taken place at the Norwich game. In presenting the key to President Hopkins, Mr. Davis said he hoped that as a symbol of frankness and openness of college athletics, the key would never be used after the official opening. In responding to the presentation of the key President Hopkins said: "Mr. Davis, a year ago you thoughtfully made the suggestion of the need of a Field House at Dartmouth for the advantage of intercollegiate athletics and expressed your willingness to provide this on such scale and on such site at might be agreeable to the College.

"This purpose you have fulfilled promptly, generously and unostentatiously. The added facilities for intercollegiate athletics have been provided in a building which fulfills its functions and adds charm and beauty to the college plant as a whole.

"Representing the trustees of Dartmouth College and speaking in their behalf I accept this gift to the College and publicly express the gratitude felt to you personally for the gift so carefully planned and so adequately provided.

"This key will be kept in remembrance of your desire for an open door for intercollegiate athletics on plane of the highest sportsmanship."

The entire student body gathered around the steps while the speeches were being made and under the direction of the new cheer leaders a Wah Hoo Wah was given for both "Shorty" Davis and "Prexy" Hopkins after the ceremonies were completed. The undergraduate body then marched through the field house and out onto the playing field to their seats.
