TOWN TO SPEND $12,000 ON IMPROVEMENT FOR BRIDGE
NOVEMBER, 1926

At the special town meeting the Hanover voters passed a motion to accept the recommendations of a special committee on improving Ledyard Bridge, authorizing the expenditure of approximately $12,000.

After a careful examination of the structure by Mr. Snow, former chief engineer of the Boston and Maine railroad and one of the greatest authorities on wooden bridges in this country, the committee recommended that the following changes be made: A new concrete abutment on the east end of the bridge and a change in the grade of approach, the addition of a sidewalk on the north side of the structure, strengthening of the floor, and replacement of decayed structural timbers. These improvements will make the bridge safe for ten years longer, at which time, under any conditions, a new bridge will be necessary.
