NEW FOOTBALL FIELD

To go along with the new football stands now being constructed on the east side of Memorial Field, there will be an entirely new gridiron. The football field was dug up and bulldozed, an automatic sprinkler system installed, and the whole area sodded over with grass especially grown for the wear and tear of a football game. One other improvement is the centering of the playing field between the east and west stands. Previously there was more sideline room on the home side of the field.

With the larger, permanent stand on the east side of Memorial Field, seating 9000 rather than 3000 spectators and increasing the stadium's capacity to 21,000, it is expected that the SRO sign won't have to be used as often as in the past. Reserved seats for two of Dartmouth's three home games last fall were sold out. The larger capacity will be especially welcome for next fall's Princeton game in Hanover on October 12, a sure sellout.

Construction of the east stands is on schedule and will be finished in time for the home opener, with New Hampshire on September 28.
