COLLEGE RECEIVES PORTRAIT OF ANCESTOR OF NAMESAKE
JANUARY, 1927

The College has received a portrait of Colonel Sir John Kaye, an ancestor of the Earl of Dartmouth, as the gift of Matt. B. Jones '94. and Mr. Harold Murdock of Chestnut Hill, Mass., director of the Harvard University Press. A plate on the portrait bears the inscription: Colonel Sir John Kaye, Bart, of Woodsome, Almondbury, Yorks. Royalist Commander. Born 1616—Died 1662

Sir John was a cavalier serving in the forces of Charles I in the civil wars. His great-granddaughter was the mother of the Earl of Dartmouth for whom the College was named.
