Within the last three months the Philadelphia Alumni Association has held two golf tournaments, the most recent having been held at the St. David's Country Club on October 6th. Mr. Conn of the Class of '87 very kindly invited us to play the new course which was opened on October Ist. Ralph Britton and Thornton Pray turned in the low score of the day, each with a 91. Chuck Canfield drove the balls so far he was never able to catch up with them. A twosome ahead of him picked them up thinking them lost balls. Chuck says that he lost seven balls which he claims to be a record for the new St. David's course. Four teen men were able to tee off but darkness prevented four from finishing which eliminated them from participation in the prize for the kickers' handicap. Although spending a good part of the afternoon in the traps, George Chamberlin won the kickers' handicap with a low net of 80. The following men played golf: Conn, Ham, Rutherford, Britton, Canfield, Chamberlin, Pray, Williams, Ashton, Larmon, Bob McMillah, Pugh, Charlock and Davidson. Twenty-two men sat down to a steak dinner at seven o'clock and at nine o'clock several tables of bridge got under way. In addition to the golfers the following men had dinner and stayed for the games of bridge: Gardner, Warner, Bugbee, Becton, Myers, Jamison, and Bugbee '96. After several hours of bridge the second social gathering of this kind held by the local association came to an end but not until everyone agreed that many more such affairs should be held in the future.
The regular alumni luncheons were resumed on September 29th at the Penn. Athletic Club. Twenty-five men attended this first luncheon of the year, which is the largest attendance at any similar luncheon during the past several years. This speaks well for the coming luncheons and it is hoped that the committee's selection of the Penn. A. C. with the opportunity for the men to enjoy some of the club's facilities will result in a large attendance at all of the luncheons.
At the luncheon next Thursday it is planned to have two former Dartmouth football "D" men speak, telling us a few things about the football prospects for the current season.
Plans are now being made to listen in to the Dartmouth-Harvard football game on October 22nd. The game will be broadcasted by a local station WFI.
It has been decided to hold our luncheons on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month during the football season and on the second Thursday only during the balance of the year.
